Proper Peptide Reconstitution

Our peptides are supplied as lyophilized (freeze-dried) powders, making them resistant to short-term temperature changes during transport. In their powdered form, peptides remain stable at room temperature for several weeks; however, proper storage is essential to preserve their integrity.

Before use in research applications, the lyophilized powder must be reconstituted with a suitable solvent to create a solution. Correct reconstitution is crucial to maintain peptide potency and bioactivity, ensuring reliable performance in further research and experimental trials.

As with all research procedures, successful peptide reconstitution requires absolute sterility and purity during preparation. Begin by thoroughly washing your hands and putting on sterile clinical gloves and protective goggles. Ensure your workspace is completely clean and organized, with all necessary tools readily available:

  • Lyophilized peptide in a glass vial

  • Sterile syringe

  • Appropriate solvent (e.g., bacteriostatic water)

  • Gloves and safety glasses

Maintaining a sterile and controlled environment is essential to safeguard accuracy and reliability in research outcomes.

The process of peptide reconstitution requires careful selection of a solvent appropriate for the peptide’s specific properties. At OmegAmino, we recommend and supply bacteriostatic water for this purpose.

Before beginning, ensure that both the peptide powder and the solvent—if previously stored under cold conditions—are allowed to reach room temperature. Attempting reconstitution with cold solutions may interfere with the process and affect solubility.

Next, carefully remove the central portion of the vial’s metal cap and disinfect the exposed surface with an alcohol swab. This step is essential for maintaining sterility and preparing the vial for reconstitution. Perform the same cleaning procedure for the solvent vial to ensure contamination-free handling.

Precise handling is essential when adding solvent to the lyophilized peptide. Using a sterile syringe, withdraw the required volume of solvent and slowly inject it into the peptide vial, keeping the vial tilted at a 45° angle. This allows the solvent to gently run down the inner wall of the vial.

This technique minimizes bubble and foam formation, promoting smooth and uniform dissolution of the peptide.

Lyophilized peptide powders demonstrate excellent stability when stored under proper conditions. At ambient room temperature (20–25 °C), peptides in their lyophilized state can be stored for up to 6 months without significant loss of integrity. When kept refrigerated at 2–8 °C, their stability extends to as long as 2 years.

Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, peptide solutions should be stored at 2–8 °C under refrigeration, where they typically remain stable for 6–8 weeks.
